Thread storage

Storing embroidery floss has been a recent topic on the Quiltart list. Mine - collected over the past 15 years - goes into flat file drawers, by fibre type and then by weight, eg fine perle and thick perle -At the bottom is the "jumble drawer", and very useful it is!

(How long would it take to use it all up ...)

Recently I've been buying thick hanks of space-dyed threads, dreaming of extensive bobbin work. When I need any of this for hand stitching, I wind it off between elbow and thumb, then cut that hank to give threads about 60cm long. These get knotted loosely or braided, and sometimes I cut the threads 30cm long (if they'll fray easily, for instance).
The unused portions of the hanks don't have a special place yet - gotta reorganise those thread drawers! And some projects-in-progress, like this sample for "Breakthrough", end up lying around -
This is the thread basket, but it seems to be taken over by unfinished knitting and scarves at the moment -
Wonder what's buried in there....
