Scene from space

If things extraterrestrial - er, in the astronomical sense - are your bag, you'll probably already know about the Astronomy Picture of the Day on the NASA site, apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html - amazement and information, both. The archive is vast.

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich runs an Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition (and has how-to info on its website). Entries to the competition are on flickr's astrophoto group. As a city dweller (= light pollution) with bad eyesight, I love to see photos of the Milky Way, like this one by frankastro
